This crusade support program is to reach out to very deprived communities in every region of Ghana.
In some villages in Ghana where children are very vulnerable, a parent is either unable to care for his/her children, causing neglect or child abuse. These communities regularly face the challenge of inadequate access to basic utilities such as food, good drinking water, electricity and health care. These selected areas have high rate of unemployment and underemployment within the community. Meaning that, many families continue to live well below the bread line. This often results in families struggling to meet the daily necessities of life.
One of the major issues that lead to vulnerability is poverty; in these villages, the link between hunger and disease is very strong. The World Health Organization (WHO) explains that “malnutrition is the underlying contributing factor in about 45% of all child deaths, making children more vulnerable to severe diseases. Malnourished children, particularly inthese villages have severe acute malnutrition;they have a higher risk of death from common childhood illness such as diarrhea, pneumonia, and malaria. More than half of under-five child deaths are due to diseases that are preventable and treatable through simple, affordable interventions.
To make matters worse in these deprived villages, many children get worms and other parasites simply from going barefoot. These parasites would be easily preventable through a pair of shoes. Instead, they rob these children of the little nutrition in their food. In the most extreme cases, the damage is so great, it stunt's children’s growth both physically and mentally
Due to lack of education parents within these villages are unaware of the courses of the loss of children.
Short Term Impact:
The children In this communities will be able to have nutritional foods that will prevent a higher risk of death from common childhood illness such as diarrhea, pneumonia, malaria and others. Kindergarten children will have quality education to build a good foundation of education.
Long Term Impact:
The project will ultimately provide quality education for the children in an environment where the teachers can provide one on one attention. This and similar projects will help sort out the bigger issue of education for children.
Farms set for individual will help support children in education and other needs.
Quarterly educating parent on the health and hygiene ways of keeping their children invulnerable to severe diseases.
We would like to add to the feeding program and supply the kindergarten with seasonal, locally grown fruits to supplement the children’s daily nutritional intake. This could be anything from small sweet banana to half mango or even avocados. Although supplying fruit from the south to the north would actually be higher in cost. We are putting the well been of the children as number one priority not expenses
Communities benefited so far
DC Kura community
Kanimo and dc kura communities are located in the mion district of yendi in the northern region of Ghana. Kanimo and dc kuraare two agricultural community where many families engage in subsistence farming of crops and animals on small pieces of lands towards providing food. As very deprived these communities are, their only occupations are farming and trading.
Many residents work in their own little farms to survive and their wages earn out of their farms are insufficient to meet their basic needs especially education and healthcare. This towns are lowly entrepreneurial with counted shops and hawkers selling various farming products.
With the aim of putting a smile on the faces of these peoples in these villages and not neglecting them, we have work to support themby embarking on a trip to celebrate Christmas holidays with them. During our stay in kanimo and dc kura, children and parents were educated on personal hygiene and child education.
Like we aimed during our 4days stay, food and drinks were provided by hope 4 the special people just to teach them how important nutritious food are needed in the lives of children. Individuals were supported to establish farms to support children in education and other needs.
With the aim of creating a conducive environment for learning, we are working to support this communities to avail education opportunities to children, to allow them an opportunity to access kindergarten school education. Our work within KANIMO and DC KURA and its environs is geared towards working with projects for a few years to mentor them to find practical solutions to meet their needs and move on to other projects that we can extend the same support to. We offer you the opportunity to join us in this exciting venture to make a positive difference in supporting education in Ghana.
First phase of the project is currently 78% completed in the above communities in Ghana. We are currently in the process of raising funds for the continue process of this project.
